Popularity Of Cricket In Sub-Continent

The game of cricket has a known history spanning from the 16th century to the gift day, with international matches played since 1844 and the Test cricket matches since 1877. While this time, the game developed from its origins in England into a game, which is now played all over the world and is more beloved in the Sub-Continent Nations- India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh

In these four Nations, cricket has emerged as the most beloved sport. The game has its origin in these Nations from18th centuries and since then it has rooted itself on discrete grounds of World. As per Bangladesh is concerned, the origin of cricket over here is found in 19th century. Since then the four Sub-Continent Nation has faced tremendous victory and defeat.

News From Bangladesh

With the commencing of Cricket World Cup in 1975, the popularity of cricket reached on its peak. The game retained more zeal and passion. However, for Sub-Continent Nation World Cup it becomes like an obsession and even today the game is still keeping the same passion and fervor.

When we move towards their previous history, we find that the top three Sub-Continent Nation i.e. India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka had a very fantastic past, keeping World Cup once. India lifted the Cup in the year 1983, under the captaincy of Kapil Dev,
Pakistan lifted the Cup in 1992, captained by Imran Khan. In 1996, Sri Lanka won the World Cup match, captained by Arjuna Ranatunga. As per Bangladesh is concerned, the popularity of cricket is found the same but its their bad luck which never pulled them to win the Cup.

"2007" is again a year for the ninth edition of the World Cup Cricket Tournament, and the four Nations are keeping its breath. The passion is still the same but only the player and the captaincy has changed. In this World Cup India is being captained by Rahul Dravid, Sri Lanka is being captained by Mahela Jayawardene, Pakistan is being captained by Inzamam-ul-Haq and Bangladesh is being captained by Habibul Bashar.

The hopes for these four Nations are dilemmatic, as their previous performance, was not that much appealing. When we cast our view towards India and Srilanka, we found that Sri Lanka was defeated by India in the recently terminated home series. As per Pakistan is concerned, they are captivating from a very bad phase, their players are injured and the team is surrounded by many controversies. And, there is no word to clarify about Bangladesh. The hope of World Cup is under dilemmatic situation but the passion and popularity is still the same among these four Sub-Continent Nations.

Hence, we will have to wait and watch the World Cup!

Icc Cricket Ranking: Love It or Hate It But You Can't leave From It

To say that ranking is 'just an additional one amount to me' and 'I don't care about them' is a clichéd statement. But many cricket players use this oft repeated statement whenever a new ranking comes up and they see that they are listed no where among the top. Ranking in any sport be it cricket or tennis is something that many population do not like, but there is no flee from it. Icc cricket rankings are the most widely recognized and thorough rankings in the world of cricket.

Icc also known as the International Cricket Council is the governing body in the cricket world. The game is controlled and administered by this governing body. Icc cricket rankings are widely thorough as official rankings in the cricket field. Icc gives rankings both to countries and personel cricket players. Rankings given to teams depend on two factors. The first factor is the execution of the team in the field and the second factor is the force of the opposing team. This means that if any team wins against a strong opposition like Australia, their ranking can shoot up but if the win is against a low ranked team like Bangladesh, then there may be very exiguous convert in the rankings.

News From Bangladesh

Icc cricket ranking are of assorted kinds. Broadly the rankings are divided in to one day international cricket ranking and test cricket ranking. Under both test cricket ranking and one day international ranking there is country ranking and personel player ranking. Within both the one day and test cricket rankings, players are individually ranked based on their execution and ability. So you can see the list of top ten batsmen, top ten bowlers and the top ten all-rounders in the world. The Icc provides a list of all top 100 players of the game for those who are nothing else but interested in knowing about players those who do not shape at the top ten.

Sachin Tendulkar of India is the best example of this. He was not active in the international cricket arena for about four to five months. However due to his consistent execution in the past he was in the list of top twenty players for a long time. The most recent Icc cricket ranking has Australia as the top team for both test matches and one day internationals. Adam Gilchrist of Australia and Shaun Pollock of South Africa are the top ranked batsmen and bowler respectively in the most recent one day international rankings released by the International Cricket Council.

Cricket World Cup 2007

Calypso Cricket has long thrilled fans with its cavalier approach to an often unnecessarily involved gentleman's game. 'Why find a gap in the field when you can just hit over the top,' argued West Indian great Sir Vivian Richards. Likewise, as a spectator sport, cricket in the Caribbean has all the time been a world apart. It is best described as a 'lively party' painted with colour and equipped with seasoned conches, drums and varied other instruments to add to the rhythmic flavoured day. Just imagine, in Australia even beach balls are confiscated upon entrance; in Barbados, ushers guide 'loud' fans to mounds where arresting spectators and Djs are jamming to calypso and soca chutney.

Hosting cricket's showcase event is an stupendous task for any nation, let alone a region as determined as the West Indies.

News From Bangladesh

"Ten years ago if you said that nine governments would integrate to pass legislation for the World Cup, and that this scale of construction would happen, citizen would have said you were mad. Since the 1930s we have taken cricket in the Caribbean for granted but now we have the chance to change the game for ever. We have spent more than 0m and used it to overhaul everything. It has been a remarkable exercise." -Chief executive of the World Cup, Chris Dehring

Whether Dehring's enthusiasm translates to a smoothly run tournament is a matter of some concern for an anxious cricket public. One thing is for determined though, when the tournament opens in Jamaica on March 13th, any speculation about the fate of the 2007 Cricket World Cup will fade away seamlessly into the rhythm of the diverse crowd as all eyes focus on that shiny red ball.

Preview

So, who will win the 2007 World Cup? Well...

1. Australia

Prediction: Champion

The reigning World Cup holders are in ominous form. They secured the Champions Trophy in India in November, then trounced England and New Zealand at home. Their belligerent on-field approach has won them some critics, but it's also won them a lot of tight matches. Captain Ricky Ponting is a tactical expert who knows how to choke opposition teams. Wicketkeeper-batsman Adam Gilchrist is capable of destroying potent attacks, Brett Lee has matured into a devastating one-day bowler, and Michael Hussey has built a reputation as a clinical finisher. World domination never gets old for this mob. Reason enough to keep them very safe.

Player to watch: Andrew Symonds

An electrifying exponent of the contemporary game, Symonds is a dread-locked, zinc-lipped expert - look for his middle-order mayhem with the bat. Symonds is more than handy with the ball too. He can bowl either darting off-spin or probing medium-pace, and his fielding is quite simply the finest in world cricket.

2. South Africa

Prediction: Semi-Finals

South Africa remains a well-drilled unit, with an experienced top shelf. Captain Graeme Smith heads a talented batting line-up that relies on the stroke-making of Jacques Kallis and Herschelle Gibbs. Throw in two tough all-rounders in Justin Kemp and Andrew Hall, plus the bouncy Makhaya Ntini, and most sides will find them hard to keep out.

Player to Watch: Mark Boucher

Vice-captain Mark Boucher is a stupendous lower order batsman, and a world-class glovesman who marshals an perfect fielding side. The 30-year-old thrives in difficult situations, but can also accelerate an innings at the death. If called upon, he rarely fails.

3. Pakistan

Prediction: Semi-Finals

Coach Bob Woolmer will be looking for consistency from his fresh-faced Pakistan side that showed promise on 2006 tours to South Africa and India. Only the much-maligned captain Inzamam-ul-Haq remains from the star-studded 1992 World Cup winning side, but key batsmen Younis Khan and Mohammed Yousuf (currently rated #1 in the world) are a formidable middle-order presence. Plus young speedster Mohammed Asif has emerged as a big wicket taker. If the chance batsmen can settle, then Pakistan will authentically threaten the big boys.

Player to Watch: Shoaib Akhtar

Pakistan's chances of World Cup glory were given an stupendous boost recently when speed demon Shoaib Akhtar had a two-year ban for steroid use lifted by the Pakistan Cricket Board. Love him or hate him, the high-flying playboy is a proven match-winner. He has sheer pace and a mysterious ability to reverse swing the ball. If fit and firing, Pakistan will go a long way.

4. New Zealand

Prediction: Semi-finals

A one-day expert side, the Black Caps are a tenacious defensive team, with enough firepower to cause upsets. The bowling strike boasts a world-class spinner in Daniel Vettori who has developed into a fine artist of flighted left-arm orthodox, the rejuvenated paceman Shane Bond, and underrated seamer Mark Gillespie. Captain Stephen Fleming fronts a flexible batting line-up, with a lower order full of dash. If the top order can shake off a tendency to self-destruct, then New Zealand will take advantage of their weak grouping.

Player to Watch: Jacob Oram

Oram is crucial to his team's balance. A muscular left-handed batsmen, he has resurrected countless Black Caps' innings with a composition of power and grace. Importantly, Oram also bowls useful medium pace, which enables the Kiwi selectors to contain other expert batsmen, or promising spinner Jeetan Patel. An injury-free Jacob Oram holds the key for New Zealand.

5. West Indies

Prediction: Super 8'S

The host nation can rarely be discounted in a major tournament, and the West Indies are the kind of team to win it just for kicks. Or at least they used to be. This current crop has talent, inconsistency continues to baffle their legion of frustrated fans. The ever-present Brian Lara will make one last hurrah, but it's the chance pair of Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Chris Gayle who could well dictate how far the team progresses. Jerome Taylor is developing quickly as a strike bowler, and Ian Bradshaw has a good one-day record, but the West Indies lack frontline bowlers to keep opposition batsmen in check. Given an all-round team operation though, and who knows what home ground advantage might bring?

Player to Watch: Dwayne Bravo

Bravo is exactly what the West Indies have been looking for - a genuine, athletic all-rounder. Bravo made a huge impression on debut in England in 2004, and hasn't looked back since. An attacking though technically astute middle order batsmen, and a deceptive medium-pace bowler, Bravo has injected some timely enthusiasm into Caribbean cricket.

6. India

Prediction: Super 8's

Expectation weighs heaviest on Team India, and their form is often harder to gauge than a winter monsoon. Yet coach Greg Chappell seems to have turned them colse to in up-to-date months, with axed captain Sourav Ganguly returning to the fray as an chance batsmen, and poster boy Sachin Tendulkar enjoying yet other purple patch. But scoring runs has never been India's problem; stopping runs has proven harder. Harbajan Singh and Anil Kumble give them attacking slow bowling options, but the conditions in the Caribbean won't suit their sharp turn. Likewise pace duo Zaheer Khan and Ajit Agarkar are too erratic to commonly issue the world's best top orders. If India tighten up in the field though, don't allowance the sleeping giant.

Player to Watch: Ms Dhoni

The glamour boy of Indian cricket, Ms Dhoni gets the crowds jumping, the girls swooning, and the selectors licking their lips. The long-haired wicketkeeper is also a punishing middle-order batsman as he proved in both Sri Lanka and Pakistan in 2005.

7. Sri Lanka

Prediction: Super 8's

The 1996 World Champions have done well to stay competing after a golden era. This well-coached, flamboyant side continues to furnish impressive results. Their solid away narrative is due to batting depth, sharp fielding, and a integrate of star bowlers, namely world-record wicket taker, Muttiah Muralitharan and veteran leftie, Chaminda Vaas. With Jayawardene as an uncompromising, determined captain, and stalwart slasher Sanath Jayasuriya still getting his team off to a flying start with the bat, look for Sri Lanka to cause a few serious headaches.

Player to Watch: Lasith Malinga

This fiery fast bowler has been a revelation for the small island nation. His round-arm performance leaves batsmen with petite time to sight the ball, and his reputation for toe-crunching yorkers and searing bouncers has cricket fans lining up to see him play. Malinga is sure to relish the West Indian pitches too, so look for him to make a real impact at World Cup 2007.

8. England

Prediction: Super 8's

The tragedy of international one-day cricket, England has won only a handful of matches in the past two years. Conservative and short-sighted selections haven't helped the cause, such as the latest Australian tour which saw three players in their mid-30's make their debut. There are some positives though, namely the brave stand-in captain Andrew Flintoff and dashing batsman Kevin Pietersen. The return of opener Michael Vaughan will make an stupendous divergence too, as will the continued improvement of cagey spinner Monty Panesar and swing bowler James Anderson.

Player to Watch: Kevin Pieterson

The out-and-out star of English cricket, charismatic Kevin has rocked the establishment with his natural aggression and suited stroke-making. Pietersen has the confidence to lead from the front, and without him England are a timid and miserable bunch. When he's in the mood though, there are few great exponents of the art of batting.

A History Of The Cricket Hall of Fame

A non-profit club aimed at the promotion and development of cricket in the United States, the Cricket Hall of Fame inducts both local and international athletes for both their gift to the game and also to lead to the society straight through charities.

In February 1981, the Sportsmen's Athletic Club, placed in Hartford, Connecticut, envisioned the start of the first Cricket Hall of Fame in the world. After a number of failed attempts, the Cricket Hall of Fame became a reality straight through an in-house development from the Sportsmen's Athletic Club.

News From Bangladesh

In October 1981, the first each year Cricket Hall of Fame induction dinner was held at the Hartford Holiday Inn Hotel. The event was beloved and possessed an air of festivity. The inaugural inductees were James Gabriel, John Law, Lloyd Walford, Alfred valentine, Lance Gibbs and Wesley Hall.

Through the years, the Cricket Hall of Fame has earned the respect of both players and fans. A decision to move the induction ceremony to New York resulted in a loss of interest, which ultimately led to complete inactivity of the Hall of Fame. After five years, a bold effort was launched by Linford Miller in 1997, which restructured the leadership and regained the respect that the Hall had once lost.

Since it's revamping, the Cricket Hall of Fame is now a leader in aiding a number of deserving charities. Among them, a gift of more than 400,000 surgical gloves for healthcare workers who were treating Aids patients in Jamaica. In 2000, the Humanitarian awards ceremony raised funds for the Boys' Town scheme and Boy Scouts movement in Jamaica, as well as a youth Hotline in Barbados, a Children's Home in St. Lucia and Alvin Kallicharan Foundation in Guyana.

Today, the Cricket Hall of Fame is getting closer to realizing a longtime dream of becoming a museum. This is staggering to significantly add to the many traveler attractions, which are already present in the city of Hartford. Thanks to the focused direction of new management, the Cricket Hall of Fame is now housed in more spacious quarters, but still in the same location, and is presently under additional renovation.

Area individuals who are members of the cricketing society or athletics, who may have special or rare books, photographs, cricket memorabilia, artifacts, films or other collectibles of historic significance are asked to consider donating their items to the Cricket Hall of Fame. For additional facts on the process of manufacture donations or for questions about label purchases for upcoming induction ceremonies, individuals are urged to perceive the Cricket Hall of Fame directly or stop by their headquarters at 3000 Main street in Hartford, Connecticut.

Hartford's Cricket Hall of Fame is a agency of the Sportsmen's Athletic Club. After years of prolonged support from both the community, athletes and cricket fans worldwide, the Hall of Fame continues to thrive and will offer fans the occasion to view rare collectibles in someone or attend an induction ceremony. If you are a cricket fan, the Cricket Hall of Fame is a must-see.
